Stepping over the bridge to Year 9 - prepared, present, purposeful - ready to learn… Year 8 get ready for High School Life…

28th June 2025

This week, we were delighted to welcome our Year 8 students into the High School for two special mornings designed to prepare them for the exciting transition into Year 9.

The first day focused on the curriculum, giving students a taste of what awaits them next year. They took part in dynamic and engaging lessons in subjects such as History, Languages, English, and Food & Nutrition. In English, activities ranged from explaining actions using synonyms in a fast-paced game of Articulate, to analysing song lyrics with insight and imagination. Across the board, our passionate High School teachers brought their subjects to life, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm in every classroom.

The second morning turned to wellbeing a cornerstone of life in High School. Students enjoyed a calming and creative programme that included yoga, dance, and mindful colouring. They also had the chance to get to know each other better in their new Year 9 form groups and began exploring the importance of self-care and emotional resilience.

We were especially pleased to see how warmly our prefect team welcomed the students. They made a genuine effort to get to know the incoming cohort demonstrating the strong sense of community and the family atmosphere that defines our High School. Many of the students already recognised familiar faces among the senators, and it was heartening to see those connections rekindled with smiles and laughter.

We look forward to welcoming the group back on Wednesday for the final part of their transition, where they will continue working with our prefects and peer counsellors, and spend more time with their new Head of Year, Mr Daniel Juma, who is already excited to guide them through this next chapter.

The experienced and dedicated High School team is ready to support them every step of the way. If this week is anything to go by, our soon-to-be Year 9 students are more than ready to rise to the challenge and thrive.
