Tall Tales and Big Smiles as Year 1 Visit the Giraffe Centre!”

2nd October 2025

On Thursday, 2nd October, Year 1 had a very exciting morning out – a trip to the Giraffe Centre! This special visit formed part of their 'My Place in the World' topic and gave them a chance to experience first hand one of the many places and animals that make Kenya such a special place to live.

As soon as they arrived, the children were welcomed by the friendly staff at the Giraffe Centre and taken on a tour to learn all about giraffes. They discovered fun facts like how giraffes can grow up to 6 metres tall, all have unique patterns, and sleep standing up!

The highlight of the trip was definitely feeding the giraffes! The children walked along the platform where they could choose to feed the giraffes by hand or simply stand back and watch the magnificent creatures up close. There were lots of giggles and wide eyes as the children plucked up the courage to place food onto their rough purple tongues.

The Year 1s were sensible, considerate of other visitors and asked lots of brilliant questions. Well done, Year 1, for being such brilliant explorers!
