The Braeburn Science Fayre: 2023 Edition

23rd June 2023

Year 8 pupils have been working really hard: planning, researching, crafting, and displaying their unique Science projects for the Braeburn Science Fayre, which was held on Friday 23rd June. There was a wide variety of scientific discoveries on display, from sound waves to magnetism, egg shell crystals, ecosystems, pulse rates, taste buds, alternative ingredients to make plastic and so much more exhibited by groups of eager young scientists.

Each group had to carefully plan their scientific investigation, prepare a practical test of their theory, model their tests to ensure that they were fair and offered valid results, and then finally provide valid and logical conclusions. In addition, each person within a group had to perform a specific role; some preparing the poster, some researching, some handling the practical aspects and others collecting data. This ensured pupils were able to work together to achieve their overall goal.

This experience has helped the Year 8s to develop their problem solving skills, practice how to perform and present scientific investigations, as well as to work together as a group. Even though it was sometimes tough and challenging to ensure we put up great science exhibitions, it was also a very fun and engaging experience that showed us that Science is a great way to solve many of the world’s problems.

Thank you to our Science teachers who guided us through the entire process and never got tired of our many questions and requests for help.
