The Cheese Makers in Year 2!

29th March 2023

This term, Year 2 has been studying Food and Farming, so to celebrate and reflect on all they had learned, they made a trip to The Brown’s Cheese Farm located in Limuru. They got to learn about different types of cheese, where they come from and how they are made.

Our pupils toured the cheese factory where they saw how cheese is made on a large scale. Curiosity and wonder was etched on their faces as they watched a demonstration of how cheese is made from scratch using a small amount of milk, and some of them even got to make their own mozzarella cheese. Very exciting!

Once they had completed the factory tour, they then made their own pizza. They rolled the dough, grated the cheese and prepared the dressing with very little help from the teachers. As the pizza cooked, it was time for a farm tour where they saw the different types of crops grown to feed the animals that provide milk used in cheese making.

When the farm tour was done, the pizzas were ready and it was time for lunch! They enjoyed their delicious pizza, played on the trampoline and got a surprise ice cream treat from Ms. Purity of Brown’s Cheese farm. What a fantastic day we had!
