The Home Stretch: Finding Calm Before the Break

21st March 2026

As we hit the second-to-last week before the break, the energy in the hallways is... palpable. You’ve probably noticed it at home, too. There’s a "pre-break buzz" that’s a mix of genuine excitement, end-of-term exhaustion, and maybe a little bit of "are we there yet?"

It’s a lot for kids to carry, and truthfully, it's a lot for parents to manage, too. Before we all head off to recharge, we wanted to share a few thoughts on how to navigate these final days with a little more grace and a little less stress.

Honor the ‘Battery Low’ Warning.

By this point in the term, many students are running on fumes. If your child seems a bit more emotional, a little quicker to snap, or unusually tired, they aren't necessarily being difficult, their regulation batteries are just low.

Simplify the evenings: If you can, skip the extra errands or the complicated dinners this week.

The ‘One Small Win’ rule: When the to-do list feels mountain-high, help pick just one thing to finish today. Crossing off one task can stop the spiral of feeling overwhelmed.

Transitioning into ‘Rest Mode’

We often treat the start of a break like a finish line we cross at a full sprint, only to collapse on day one. We can help our students (and ourselves) transition more gently:

Clear the mental clutter: Encourage students to take ten minutes this Friday to clean out their bag or organize their desk. Walking away from a clean space makes the eventual return feel like a fresh start rather than a looming shadow.

Focus on being, not just doing: We often ask students "What are you going to do over the break?" Try asking, "How do you want to feel?" Whether it’s "quiet," "adventurous," or just "unplugged," it helps them prioritize actual restoration.

We’re Still Here

If the end-of-term pressure is feeling like too much, please reach out. We’re in the office all through next week and happy to chat, offer resources, or just provide a listening ear.

Hang in there, you’re almost to the finish line. We're wishing you a week of steady energy and a very well-deserved rest just around the corner.
