The IAPS Chess Tournament

Braeburn hosted the annual Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) chess tournament on Saturday May 6th, with about 100 pupils from Hillcrest, Braeburn Garden Estate, Peponi House, Kenton, The Banda, Braeburn Mombasa and the host school, Braeburn School.
The event was organised by Braeburn teachers, alongside the chess club patron, and was an encouraging display of zeal and determination by all participants. They displaying excellent chess skills and great sportsmanship. Among the players were a couple of National Chess Grand Champions, a testimony to the high level of chess that was on display.
The event was divided into three categories: U9, U11 and U13, with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers being awarded gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Tian Goodchild from Pembroke School won the U9 Gold, Aaryan Sennik fro Braeburn Mombasa the U11 Gold and Chanel McKenzie from The Banda School won the U13 Gold.
Congratulations to the Braeburn players, most of whom were playing competitively for the first time this weekend.
