The Languages Morning @ Brookhouse

24th May 2024

We at Braeburn take great satisfaction in our ability to study and explore, and we believe that languages should not be overlooked! A delegation of 13 pupils represented the school at the Brookhouse Languages Morning while the rest started their half-term break.

This happened at Brookhouse Runda on Saturday, May 25. Ten schools participated in the event, and each school represented five distinct languages. While the Year 8 pupils showed Powerpoints of their favourite rooms in Chinese, French, German, Spanish, and Swahili, the Year 7s recited poems in French, German, Spanish, and Swahili.

Braeburn was taking part in this competition for the first time, and our pupils did really well in all areas. We placed first in poetry in both German (Hannah and Salim) and French (Ava and Stacy), second in Spanish (Aura and Mateo), and fifth in Swahili (Aila and Olivia). We also placed first in Spanish (Kavan), German (Nathanael H), and Chinese (Xi Yin Tan) for the Powerpoint presentations, third in French (Khalid), and fifth in Swahili (Laura). The crew deserves a lot of praise for such a productive morning!

It is true that "there is a unique kind of beauty that is born in language, of language, and for language." Bachelard Gaston.
