The Mighty Aztec Society Returns During Year 6’s Aztec Day!

24th February 2023

Year 6s marked the end of their learning on the Aztec Society with a celebration that recapped all the aspects they enjoyed learning about; from the fierce Jaguar Warriors, to the many battles that provided prisoners whose beating hearts were sacrificed to the god of the sun, to the intricate Aztec stone art and so much more.

The day started off with pupils re-creating the famous double-headed serpent often depicted in Aztec art, using the mosaic method. Then came the creation of Aztec masks and shields that the fearless warriors wore to battle. This was especially useful in the next activity where Year 6s took all they had been learning in Drama lessons to write, direct and act out scenes on the different aspects in Aztec history.

Some Year 6’s had this to say:

"I like the war strategy that they Aztecs used. They were fierce warriors." Serene, 6B

" The Aztec art was really cool. They did amazing things with stone." Ryan, 6J

" The Aztec clothes were really beautiful, especially the long colourful feathered headdresses." Aura, 6K

A big thank you to our parents for once again helping our pupils to come up with the costumes for the day.
