10th May 2023
On Wednesday 10th May, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) parents attended a workshop to share ideas on the importance of ‘outdoors and messy play’, facilitated by teachers. Outdoors play is a crucial tool to build resilience and healthy relationships, as well as to develop an understanding of the physical environment and the risks that exist within it. It supports the children as they learn to think critically, take risks and form a true sense of belonging with their peers and the wider community.
Parents agreed that children need the opportunity to run, jump and even fall because it trains their bodies on how to react in certain situations, as well as to cope with the physical strain that undoubtedly arises in play. As a school, we encourage a good amount of outdoor play, with a focus on building independence, skills, relationships and the knowledge of nature.
