Oxford Cambridge Debating Championship Success

On Saturday, October 26th, and Sunday, October 27th, ten Braeburn debate teams, each with two dedicated debaters, set off for the prestigious Oxford-Cambridge Debating Championship at USIU. Representing Years 9 to 12, Braeburn students took on the fierce competition with determination, mastering the intricacies of the British Parliamentary Debate style.

The competition’s first round kicked off mid-morning on Saturday and continued until evening, with a break for lunch between the second and third debates. After three challenging rounds on the first day, our Braeburn teams entered the final qualifying round on Sunday with focus and determination. Thanks to their hard work, all teams reached the quarter-finals in their respective ranks and cups.

The intensity continued through the quarter- and semi-final rounds, culminating in three highly engaging Braeburn vs. Braeburn debates. In the end, three of our junior teams and one senior team triumphed, securing their places in the finals, and qualifying for the Senior and Junior Cups in Oxford and Cambridge next March.

This experience was an invaluable opportunity to enhance our confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills. Congratulations to all the talented participants, and a heartfelt thanks to the teachers and debate trainers for their support!
