Neema Muigai

Neema Muigai has joined us as a gap student, keen to start her career as a teacher. Assisting in the Sports’ and Business departments, Neema has strong athletic skills gained from participating in a variety of inter-school sports’ activities along with an extensive knowledge of the human body gained from studying biology at both IGCSE and A-level. Neema also studied business and sociology and possesses strong leadership skills which will help her inspire our students.

Neema has already worked with the Business Department helping teachers on school trips, and, as someone who is passionate about working with children. In her letter of application, she explained to me that, “I am eternally grateful to my teachers for all their sacrifice, dedication and commitment. I aim to do the same by advancing young minds as I look into a possible teaching career.”

Neema is already a valuable member of our team and a familiar face in the staffroom - her ability to integrate and work co- operatively with colleagues is essential for a productive work environment and we are so happy to have her as part of the team.

Kirstie Gitau

My name is Kirstie Gitau, I am a sports gap student currently working coherently with the primary school and high school PE departments here at Braeburn School.

The Braeburn community is not new to me, having completed my primary education at Braeburn Mombasa, and then moving to complete my high school education here at Braeburn School.

After completing high school, I did a year and a half of my Sport and Exercise Science degree at the University of Winchester in the UK and then opted to take a gap year. Moving back to Kenya, I decided to dedicate my year off to dive into the world of sport teachers to gain more skill experience and provide a stronger foundation for my future dreams of becoming a children's sport physiologist.

Every day at Braeburn is a valuable learning experience for me as well as a massive opportunity to put into practice my growing sporting knowledge. Working alongside professional sport teachers and coaches through the various age groups, I have become more proficient in leadership, injury and risk assessment and a more in depth understanding of children psychology among many other skills that are essential in my career.

As I continue through the rest of the term here I hope to put into practice professionally and academically my acquired skills into completing the rest of my degree and hopefully thereafter, undertaking a masters in sports’ science.
