The World Scholar's Cup

28th February 2022

What is the World Scholar’s Cup?

The World Scholar’s Cup is an international program that emphasises learning while also having fun. It has 6 subjects, History, Art & Music, Literature & Media, Social Studies, Science & Technology and Special Area. Every year, a curriculum based on a theme is released, with topics in each subject. It has 4 main events based on the curriculum, which are: Team Debate, The Scholars Challenge (a multiple choice quiz), Collaborative Writing, and The Scholar’s Bowl (a kahoot-like quiz).

In the words of Daniel Berdichevsky, founder of the World Scholars’ Cup (and massive legend), "We never imagined that this would be the largest regional event in our history, but we always knew it would be one of our most competitive, and most joyful. The PWAA is strong in Nairobi."

Quotes from students who participated this year:

“I’ve been doing World Scholars for three years now, and my memories from it are definitely among my favourites. Each year is a more memorable, amazing experience than the next, and WSC staff are both the nicest and the coolest people to ever exist”~Prisha Victor 9H

"This was my first time taking part in the World Scholars Cup, and I would most definitely do it again with no hesitation. The whole atmosphere of the competition, the friendly staff members, and the sense of commitment and togetherness was really welcoming. Being there with my friends and teachers and getting to work with many new people was an experience I would never forget. My friends supported me, and so did my teachers. I was so excited when me and my friends got selected for Globals. I can't wait for the Globals, which I heard is much better than the regionals! World Scholars is such a wonderful program and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn, make new friends, and have fun!!!" - Ria Jijo 9H

"WSC's community is welcoming and refreshing and still undeniably awkward, I feel like I belong in a big, goofy group of friends, it's not the same anymore once the event is over." -Madhavi Gopalakrishna 9B

Back then it looked like a no but now it is a yes -Andrea Ann Thomas 9N

The overall experience was good I had fun competing with other teams and watching my friends and me win but I feel like they delayed too much for going home -Kokayia Pasha
