U11 IAPS Girls Hockey Tournament

21st March 2022

There was a high level of athleticism demonstrated by the U11 girls who represented the school at the Peponi House IAPS hockey tournament on Saturday, 12th March. The team had an engaged group of girls who had worked hard over the term to learn the basic skills and techniques of the sport to compete in a high caliber tournament.

Their first match in the group stages, saw them record nil all draws against Peponi B and Pembroke House, and thereafter two wins of 3-0 against St. Andrews Turi, and 1-0 against The Banda. These results put us at the top of our pool, setting the stage for a semifinal against Hillcrest, who were second in their pool.  This match ended in a nil all draw in the regulation time, leaving us with no choice but to have this match decided by the one-on-one run-ins. After 12 penalty run-ins, and an outstanding goalkeeping performance by Tiffany Kulaba, Wawira Murigu snatched the winner for the girls in a tense and emotionally charged game. We met The Banda again in the final, and after a hard fought match, The Banda scored the winning solitary goal in the dying minutes of the game.

Well done to the U11 girls for an excellent performance.
