Braeburn showcased resilience and determination in the recent IAPS Girls Hockey Tournament held at Kenton College on March 1. The Under 11 Girls started strong in the group stages with three consecutive wins against Kenton (1-0), Hillcrest (1-0), and Brookhouse (1-0) before falling to Pembroke (0-1). Despite the setback, they advanced confidently to the knockout rounds.
The semi-final against Peponi was a tense battle, ending in a 0-0 draw after extra time. The game proceeded to a penalty shootout, which finished 1-1, forcing sudden death penalties. Braeburn held their nerve and secured victory with a decisive goal, booking their place in the final.
In a dramatic rematch against Pembroke, the final mirrored the semi-final intensity, ending 0-0 after extra time. Once again, a penalty shootout was needed, and after another round of sudden death, our girl emerged victorious, demonstrating composure and teamwork in a well-earned triumph with Esther being crowned U11 goalkeeper of the tournament.
The Under 13s also displayed excellent teamwork and skill. In the group stages they won their first match against Brookhouse (1-0), drew with The Banda and Braeburn Garden Estate, and lost only to Hillcrest, finishing third in their group. Their strong effort and sportsmanship earned Aila, Olivia, and Eva spots on the Nairobi West regional team, where they played against Nairobi East and Upcountry Schools, eventually winning the regional tournament.
