Under 11 & 13 Girls Fight Hard at IAPS Hockey Tournament

11th March 2023

Braeburn rose up to the challenge on Saturday, 11th March, prepared to fight hard for the number one spot at the Under 11 and 13 IAPS Girls’ Hockey Tournament held at Peponi School. Our Under 11s drew 2, and lost 2 matches in the group stages, showing significant improvement from the start of the season where they had previously lost to teams such as BGE and Peponi during fixtures. In addition, their 2 losses were against the tournament finalists (Hillcrest and The Banda), an indication of just how tough those games were.

Similarly, our Under 13s put up a spirited fight, winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 2 matches within the groups stages. Despite the difficult start, it was encouraging to see Braeburn step up their game in the final group match against Brookhouse. The girls managed to put away 2 textbook goals, moving the ball down the line for Tara to sweep into the goal from the penalty spot. It was a great show of what the girls are capable of and a well deserved win for them.

Even though Braeburn did not make it through to the semi-finals, we are pleased with progress our girls have made throughout the term, and their developed understanding of the game. Not to mention the fantastic team energy and spirit displayed by all.

A special mention to Maliaka Abilla, Anissa Etale and Wawi Muriugi for being selected to play for Nairobi West in the Nairobi East, West and Upcountry Tournament.
