23rd November 2024
On Saturday 23rd November, Braeburn fielded a spirited Under 12 Boys team, composed mostly of Year 7 pupils and one Year 6 player. Under 12 is not an age group that we normally compete in, or have established teams for, so the boys came together from Under 13 and Under 11 teams for this one-off event for them. The boys showcased their skills against some exceptional footballers from other schools, delivering moments of excitement and demonstrating their determination throughout the tournament.
The group matches were a thrilling mix of challenges and triumphs. The team opened with a solid 0-0 draw against Crawford School, showing great defensive coordination. In a closely contested match, Braeside B edged us out 2-0, but our boys didn’t let that dampen their spirits. They bounced back impressively in their final group game, claiming a well-earned 1-0 victory against St. Christopher's School. This match was a standout performance, with Isaiah (Year 7) creating opportunities with shots on target and Bruck Getaneh scoring a last-minute goal that ignited hopes of progressing further.
Despite tying on points with Braeside B, we narrowly missed out on the semifinals due to goal difference. Nonetheless, the tournament was a fantastic learning experience, highlighting the importance of teamwork, resilience, and seizing opportunities. A huge well done to the team for their brilliant efforts and sportsmanship!
