Week 3 Sports Highlights

U15 Boys’ Basketball vs Rosslyn Academy @Rosslyn Academy

First game for the U15 boys basketball team. We lost 48-38 to Rosslyn Academy. The boys looked extremely nervous from the first whistle, conceding an early lead to Rosslyn 19-10 in the first quarter. We were neck and neck all through the second, and third quarters. In the fourth quarter the boys rallied to reduce the 9 points deficit and with 4 minutes left, we were trailing by 6 points. A few tired bodies led to crucial mistakes which we could not recover.

U19 Girls V Greensteds (away match)

The first half was dominated by Braeburn. The girls made a strong attack straight from the whistle. The tactic paid off as we were 2 goals up within the first 5 mins. Braeburn dominated the 1st half so much that Greensteds requested we play 9 aside for the second half since they were struggling with 11 aside.

The second half was more balanced with both teams managing to have several shot corners. The final score was Braeburn 5: Greensteds 1

U19 Girls V St Andrews Turi(away match)

This was an exciting match because the teams seemed well balanced in ability from the get go. Braeburn dominated the first half. We had very many opportunities but unfortunately we struggled to finish. Our girls were persistent in their attack which finally paid off with a beautiful goal from Marie Wangombe.

The goal put St Andrews on fire. Clearly, they were determined not to lose. The match become an exhilarating feat. Tension all around. After afew minutes Turi equalized after a lapse of judgement from our defenders.

Both teams changed gears. The quality of play shifted a notch higher. There was a sense of urgency all round. The tension was unpalatable. Turi dominated for 5 minutes. There was panic on the Braeburn bench. Then, out of nowhere Lotte got the ball from midfield and injected it into the Turi goal circle, Marie Wangombe touched it. Celebration all around!

The last few minutes were intense as Turi worked for an equalizer while Braeburn defended with their life.

Final score Braeburn 2: St Andrews 1

MVP: Marie Wangombe
