Week 6 Sports' recap

7th October 2023

Sports festival

The Braeburn Sports festival was fundamental in pushing ourselves to our limits. We were split into 4 teams consisting of students from different Braeburn schools, and competed in 4 different main events over the span of 2 days. The first day was athletics, 21km swimming and 21km rowing. This day highlighted the importance of perseverance as well as being open-minded with trying things out of our comfort zones. Whereas, the second day emphasised the role teamwork has on sporting success. We learned to communicate and strategise effectively during netball and latterly, CrossFit. Despite being a challenging and demanding two days, it was definitely a learning experience which strengthened us.

Many positives to take back!

The U15 boys played two matches against Rusinga today: Team A and Team B. In the first game Team A led before going 2-1 down. Towards the end of the game the boys fought and scored a late goal to get the draw.

In the second game the team came on and started off well again. The game was drawn but we had two big chances towards the end which we just could not convert. The game ended 2-2. We keep learning.

A great learning experience for the girls! 21-17 to Braeburn U15s

Braeburn School U15 girls played an intense game against Rusinga with both sides very eager to take the win. We started off strong and won the first quarter 6-3. The Rusinga side then quickly managed to catch up and take the lead in the 2nd quarter, sending the girls into a bit of a panic and resulting in some careless errors on the court.

After a very serious team talk the girls got back in the game and managed to tie in the 3rd quarter. Very exceptional leadership was shown from Sarah M'mwende (Captain) and Amie Katta as they managed to calm the team down and re-center the game. In the end, the girls won the game 21-17. We are looking forward to their next game on Wednesday vs Peponi😊

U19 Netball V Rusinga

Our match on Monday against Rusinga was tough because we weren’t playing in ideal conditions - it was raining and the ground was slippery, so we had to be a lot more careful which made it harder to play our best. Even so, the beginning quarters started off really well and we managed to score a lot more than them. Although we struggled a bit more in the third quarter, we still persevered and were happy in the end when we won.

U19 match v Peponi.

In a thrilling and closely contested match, the Braeburn team emerged victorious against Peponi with a final score of 20 to 17. The game was a true testament to the skill and teamwork of both teams, but Braeburn's performance was exceptional. From the opening whistle, it was clear that this match would be a battle of equals. Peponi displayed remarkable offensive and defensive prowess, putting intense pressure on the Braeburn team throughout the game. However, Braeburn's players showcased their determination, skill, and an unwavering spirit that would ultimately lead them to victory. Every player on the Braeburn team contributed significantly to the win. The offense executed their plays with precision, scoring crucial goals, and the defense demonstrated incredible resilience, stopping Peponi's advances time and time again. It was a collective effort that made the difference.

A good day for the U15 & U17 girls who came together in a mixed team to play the U19 Peponi B team. The girls were in good spirits and keen to stamp their authority on the game from the very start. Within the first 10 minutes, they had safely converted their own centre passes, and converted many of their turnovers, taking an early lead of 10-1. The momentum did not stop and at half time they had extended their lead to 17-5. With all members of the squad stepping up and playing their part they were difficult to stop, ending the game with a 29-10 win. A memorable mention to Aminata Fatty who dominated in GA, managing to score almost 100% of her shots and Kamikazi Mvungi for her amazing work defensively! 😊
