World Bee Day

27th May 2021

Bee Happy by Clara, Year 4

On the 20th of May, Braeburn celebrated World Bee Day! The teachers decided to teach about the international day so that students could start considering the importance of bees. The whole school got creative and came dressed in bee-utiful costumes!

Creativity spread even more, and some wonderful activities were completed. Did you know that only female honey bees work in the hive? This is one of the many things the children learnt on the day. From bee raps to bee posters, the students had an amazing busy bee day. Black and yellow everywhere, the Braeburn bees learned why bees are such an important part of the ecosystem.

In 5S, a number of students were appreciative of how important bees are for our environment and had amazing things to say! They stated that our lives depend on bees and that World Bee Day would be a good chance for everyone to notice them. They demonstrated their appreciation for bees through some excellent art work. 5S is certainly a very creative class!

On arriving at 6K, Colin eagerly explained, “I like them because they look cute and make honey.” On the other hand, Kelly likes bees because they are good for the planet. Thank you, 6K!

In 4B, Amy explained she likes bees because they help in pollination. Additionally, Lama pointed out that one of the reasons she loves bees is because they help in making medicine. Finally, Eden said, “I learnt that in a honey-bee hive there are three types of bees: one queen, drones and workers.”

A student called Imara, in 3J, likes bees because they help the environment to get nectar. In the same way, Robin explained, “I think bees are very important to the ecosystem.” Undoubtedly Alan learned a lot from the day as he claimed that bees are imperative for us and they fly 55000 miles per hour!

It was clear that World Bee Day was doing its job and persuading everyone that bees weren’t actually made to sting. They play a very important part in the ecosystem, pollination and the growing of fruits and vegetables, in order to help us and other animals survive! It is hoped that this report will teach even more people the importance of keeping bees safe in their habitat.

Imagine a life without bees!
