Braeburn Shines Again in World Scholars’!

Early in April, nine diligent students took part in the esteemed World Scholars’ Cup Competition, displaying their commitment and confidence on stage. This programme of two days included overcoming a multitude of obstacles like collaborative writing, debate, scholars challenge and scholars bowl to gain a standing on the podium. It was a fun way to start the April holiday, offering a great opportunity to socialise with various students from outside Kenya and within. Organised by Brookhouse and hosted by the Bomas of Kenya, this proved to be one of the largest regional competitions, attracting thousands of students from both the junior and senior category drawn from schools from around Kenya and the larger East African region.

In order to compete in this tournament, one needs to familiarise oneself with the syllabus provided. It is a mixture of six main subjects with themes related to Literature, Media, History, Social Studies, Special area, Science, Technology, Art and Music.

After the rigorous training during the April holidays, scholars from Braeburn gained accolades and recognition in a plethora of subject areas. Among the outstanding achievements, Madhavi was fourth best scholar overall, winning a trophy and a gold medal in addition to having top scores in two subjects. Her team, consisting of Lewis and Rital, also secured 15th place in the team debate. We were pleasantly surprised when the team consisting of myself, Advait, and Angle Muteswa (from Braeside), earned a gold medal and two trophies, took second position in the individual challenge and were the second best team in the entire competition! We did it!

Additionally, I received an opportunity to represent the school in the debate showcase, while being awarded the top scholar in one subject overall. Finally, further congratulations go to Deborah for securing 8th place in the individual challenge, and to her team, consisting of Atinuke and Michel, for earning a silver medal in the team bowl competition.

Braeburn acquired 3 trophies and various gold and silver medals. I would like to extend my gratitude to Mrs. Muthama and Mr. Ochieng who guided us during this tournament.
