Yesterday, 29 Geography students accompanied by our lovely teachers embarked on an exciting trip to Mount Longonot in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley.
The day began with a scenic drive from Braeburn to the base of the stratovolcano, where we prepared for the 6.2-kilometer hike. As a group with lots of enthusiasm, we tackled the steep ascent to the crater rim making stops to get further explanations from our teachers. The majority of us got to the top and even the few who found it a bit challenging made it to the midway level. Well done classmates! We observed geological features such as a crater, solidified lava flows, ash layers, a side vent, and a cone let.
The trip fostered teamwork and resilience. Together we overcame the physical challenge of hiking under the scorching sun. Overall we gained not only knowledge but also a deeper appreciation of the natural environment Kenya has to offer.
I personally feel confident to answer a question from the topic:
‘Earthquakes and volcanoes’
We all gained a real case study towards the IGCSE Exams.
How lucky we are to have such an opportunity !
