7th May 2025
On 7th May, the Year 3 pupils embarked on their much-anticipated trip to the Maasai Village, a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insight into traditional Kenyan life of one of its tribes. This experience directly supported their term 3 topic lessons, where they are exploring the different tribes of Kenya.
The local Maasai community warmly welcomed us with a variety of engaging activities. Pupils visited the village elder’s manyatta, listened to folk tales, and learned about the village hierarchy. They also helped repair a manyatta using mud, learned how to cook ugali, and observed the process of making sisal rope. A highlight was watching the Moran demonstrate how they defend their herds from wild animals like buffalo and leopards.
The trip concluded with our Year 3s performing a local Maasai song for the villagers — a memorable cultural exchange. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching experience for both staff and students, deepening their understanding of Kenya’s diverse tribal heritage.
