Year 1 Prepare Their Own Lunch at Mlango Farm

31st January 2023

To enrich their learning of plants within Science lessons, Year 1 pupils visited Mlango Farm on January 31st and February 2nd. The pupils were given a short talk about farming and thereafter went on a farm walk, where they were shown how vegetables are grown, and also identified some crops.

After their walk, the pupils fed the farm animals, including goats, horses, donkeys, rabbits, geese, cows and even a dik dik (a small species of antelope). The pupils enjoyed planting their own plants to take home after their walk. They then cooked their own bread on a stick over a fire and sat down to enjoy a freshly made lunch straight from the farm.

To finish the fantastic day, Year 1's then helped make some eco bricks on the farm to not only recognise the damage plastic does, but to also find alternative ways to dispose of it.
