Year 1 Pursues Giraffes!

5th December 2022

This term in Science, Year 1 has been learning about animals (including humans), and on Monday 5th, and Tuesday 6th December, they visited the Giraffe Centre in Karen, Nairobi, in pursuit of more knowledge on graceful giraffes. They stood in awe of the towering animals who readily fed off the pupils' hands without a care in the world. After feeding the giraffes, Year 1s then explored the giraffe information room where they made a giraffe puzzle and listened to a presentation on the features and characteristics of giraffes. To end the tour of the centre, pupils then visited the tree nursery and learnt about how it supports tree planting and reforestation.

Exhilarated from their experience with giraffes, our fearless little explorers then moved onto Mamba Village, also in Karen, where they were able to see crocodiles, monkeys and tortoises. Amid the many inquiries our pupils had about the different animals, was a clear demonstration that they had developed their questioning skills and scientific vocabulary over the course of the term.
