Year 1 Turns Flip-Flops into Fantastic Art!

3rd June 2026

Our Year 1 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting trip to the Ocean Sole workshop, where they discovered how creativity and conservation can work hand in hand. The children learned about Ocean Sole’s inspiring mission to protect marine life by collecting and recycling discarded flip-flops that would otherwise pollute beaches and oceans. During a fascinating tour of the workshop, they followed the recycling process from start to finish, watching as old flip-flops were washed, cut, glued, and transformed by skilled artisans into colourful safari animals.

Inspired by what they had seen, our 1’s then had the opportunity to become eco-artists themselves. Using a variety of recycled materials, they created their own vibrant masterpieces and learned that everyday waste can be given a new purpose through imagination and creativity. It was a fun-filled day of learning that encouraged the children to think more carefully about protecting our environment while celebrating the power of recycling.
