Research Methods Field Trip to The Hub Karen
On Friday 27th February, Year 10 and Year 12 students visited The Hub Karen to put into practice what we have been learning in class about research methods.
Research methods are a fundamental part of both Sociology and Psychology at IGCSE and A Level, and are among the first topics covered in the syllabus. This trip gave students the opportunity to experience how research is carried out in real-life settings.
Upon arrival, students were divided into groups to collect data from a range of participants. This allowed us to gain practical insight into conducting surveys and interacting with members of the public.
The experience also helped us develop important communication and social skills. At times, some participants did not fully understand the questions, and we learned to adapt by rephrasing them clearly and appropriately. This helped us understand the challenges researchers may face in the field.
Overall, the visit was a memorable and insightful experience that strengthened our understanding of research methods and their practical application.
We would like to thank the teachers who accompanied and supported us throughout the trip.

The Year 10 students visited The Hub,Karen for a Psychology and Sociology trip. During our visit, we had the opportunity to interview members of the public by applying both closed and unstructured questions. We also conducted observations and analysed; how customers and sellers interacted with each other, how people’s behaviors differed when they were alone compared to when they were accompanied etc. Through this, we were able to gather qualitative and quantitative data. This trip provided a great opportunity for us students to apply our classroom knowledge in a real-life setting which not only strengthened our understanding but was also quite an enjoyable experience.
