Year 11 & 13 Geophysics Trip to Olkaria

9th March 2024

The production and management of energy resources is a topic covered in the Year 11 and 13 Geography and Physics syllabus. To enhance understanding, the students embarked on an exciting journey to Olkaria Geothermal Plant in Naivasha, where they got to learn about renewable energy. The energy engineers explained how heat from the Earth's core is harnessed to generate electricity for our daily use.

They got to understand how innovative technologies have been used to capture and utilise geothermal energy, which is clean, sustainable and contributes greatly to Kenya's energy mix.

They can now clearly describe and explain the impacts energy production has on the environment

Throughout the journey, they identified the features found within the Rift Valley and this enhanced their understanding on how plate tectonics helps to shape the earth.

The trip was climaxed by a visit to the geothermal spa where they enjoyed a swim in the soothing warmth of naturally heated water. A true natural tourist attraction.

We wish them well as they use this information to prepare for the upcoming exams!
