On 7th October, our Year 12 Hospitality class was taken for a tour to JW Marriott and Sankara known among Nairobi’s luxurious five-star hotels in the city. The visit was an opportunity for the students to get a thorough understanding of how the best in the industry manage to keep their high level of service, comfort, and luxury. The two hotels are renowned universally for their excellent customer service and their internationally standardized facilities which make them great places to learn from. These professionals in the hospitality industry strive to satisfy customer needs, competing with standards from across the world.

Students received a warm welcome during their visit to Sankara Nairobi and were shown around the modern hotel guest rooms, restaurants, and conference facilities. They were told that Sankara is considered a five-star hotel not only for its service quality but also for its amenities and guest experience. Recently, the management team took on the renovation of all public areas in order to make the guests more comfortable and keep up with the competition in Nairobi's luxurious market. The students were also enlightened on the hotel's recruitment policy that puts emphasis on professional qualifications, experience, and in-house training.

The next destination was JW Marriott which shed another light on hospitality excellence. The brand's target market, which are mainly business guests and upscale travelers, was disclosed to the students. These guests are tempted by the hotel’s high-quality services and customized experiences. Besides, the students realized that the hotel had environment-friendly practices and customer loyalty programs as well. All in all, the field trip provided the students with hands-on experience with the hospitality operations in their actual setting and encouraged the translation of course material into real life and discussion of career opportunities in the hotel sector.
