In the last week of term 2, Year 1 culminated their learning on the topic of ‘Kings and Queens’ by throwing a royal banquet. The day started off with a costume parade to show off the huge effort that parents and pupils had put into their outfits. It was wonderful to see kings, queens and other leaders from all over the world represented. Our costumes were also a wonderful hook for learning about various kings and queens through role play.
Our Year 1s then proceeded to prepare for the banquet by making decorations, baking scones and preparing entertainment. They learnt about different banquet traditions such as forms of entertainment, the food eaten and how it has changed over the years, not forgetting the importance of table manners. The preparation was almost as fun as the banquet itself. The little kings and queens danced, entertained, and ate like royals. It was the perfect way to crown off the topic.
