Year 2 Early Man Day: A Step Back in Time

5th February 2025

On Wednesday, 5th February, Year 2 pupils stepped back in time to experience life as early humans during Early Man Day! Dressed as Stone Age hunters and gatherers, they took part in a range of hands-on activities that brought history to life.

The day began with an exciting parade in front of Year 2 parents, as well as pupils from EYFS, Year 1 and Year 3. With music and dance, the children proudly showcased their fantastic Stone Age outfits, setting the tone for a day full of adventure and discovery. A huge "Asante Sana" to our wonderful parents, who did an amazing job putting together such creative and realistic costumes for the pupils!

Throughout the day, the children engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, including making Early Man cone people, crafting Stone Age-style necklaces and trying their hand at paper weaving, mimicking early textile techniques. They also explored prehistoric art through cave painting, just as early humans did on cave walls.

To understand the concept of hunting and gathering, the pupils made delicious fruit kebabs, symbolising the way early humans foraged for food. Their excitement and enthusiasm were evident in every activity as they compared the past to modern life and deepened their understanding of human history.

It was a truly immersive and memorable experience, and we are so proud of our young historians for their creativity, energy and curiosity. Well done, Year 2!
