Year 2 pupils had a wonderful learning experience at Brown’s Cheese Farm in Limuru, bringing their ‘Food and Farming’ topic to life in an engaging and hands-on way. To ensure a personalised experience, each class visited on different days, allowing the farm guides to give detailed explanations and answer questions.
The visit began with a farm tour, where pupils explored lush gardens filled with herbs and crops and saw farm animals like cows, donkeys and rabbits. They then observed the cheese-making process, starting with a small-scale demonstration before heading to the cheese factory to see how cheese is produced on a larger scale, including plant-based cheese made from coconut milk. A visit to the cold room gave them a fascinating insight into how cheese is stored before being distributed.
Most pupils also had the exciting opportunity to make their own pizzas from scratch and enjoy a delicious ice cream treat straight from the factory. Unfortunately, 2B pupils had to return to school early, missing these activities. However, plans are underway for a repeat visit next term, so they don’t miss out on the full experience.
Before heading back, pupils enjoyed playtime on the farm’s trampoline and play area, adding a fun and active end to a truly memorable trip. The visit was a fantastic way for Year 2 to see farming and food production in action and it will surely be a highlight of the term!
