Year 2s Go Green!

14th June 2023

In Science, Year 2s have been learning about everyday materials such as plastic, wood, glass and paper, and how regular use of these materials affects the environment. To actively minimise the negative impact of these materials, the Year 2s took action by dedicating Wednesday, 14th June to ‘Go Green!’

To kick start the day, we had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. and Mrs Nyakeri, parents at the school who also won a prize from UN Habitat for their efforts in conservation. The two presented and discussed with our pupils about the importance of trees in the environment. They learnt that one tree produces just enough oxygen for four people a day. They were also introduced to the hashtag #maketheworldcoolagain# which is an initiative to use eco-friendly products. Our new green enthusiasts then pledged to each plant a tree in their backyards to play their part in making the world cool again.

Other activities of the day included making a bird feeder from recycled materials and visiting the school recycling centre where they explored recycling and were able to see how much of each material we use in the school. We also held a ‘Go Green’ scavenger hunt where our Year 2s collected data to see how the school is going green by conserving energy. To top it all off, every class planted a tree, taking one small step closer to making the world cool again.

Whether big or small, your actions can make a difference! Let’s all go green for our planet!
