The Year 2 pupils recently enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Brown’s Cheese Farm, where learning came to life through hands-on experiences and exciting discoveries. Upon arrival, the children were warmly welcomed by Ms. Risper and immediately immersed themselves in the fascinating world of food production. They watched a live mozzarella-making demonstration and learned how simple ingredients such as milk, starter culture, rennet and salt are transformed into cheese. During a guided tour of the factory, pupils observed the production of different cheeses, visited the ice cream room, explored where crackers are made, and even stepped inside the cold room where cheeses are carefully matured.
One of the highlights of the day was the pizza-making workshop, where every child had the opportunity to create their own pizza from scratch. They rolled out dough, spread sauce, added cheese and selected their favourite toppings before enjoying their freshly baked creations for lunch. The excitement continued outdoors with a farm walk and scavenger hunt, where pupils worked together to identify plants, observe farm animals and learn more about life on a working farm. For many, the chance to milk a cow was a particularly memorable experience and a definite highlight of the visit.
The day concluded with a delicious treat as pupils sampled locally made ice cream, including sorbet and dairy-free varieties, alongside refreshing homemade lemonade. The visit provided a wonderful blend of learning, creativity and teamwork, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding of food production while having great fun. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for both pupils and staff, creating lasting memories and inspiring curiosity long after the visit had ended.
