Year 2’s Thrilling Visit to The Nairobi National Park

23rd January 2025

On Thursday 23rd January, our Year 2 pupils embarked on an exciting adventure to Nairobi National Park. This much-anticipated trip was a culmination of our Topic work, Sensational Safari and our Science unit, Animals Including Humans.

The excitement was palpable as pupils arrived at school early, eager to begin the day. We departed promptly to ensure we reached the park before the animals retreated into the shade. By 9:00 am, we had arrived, ready to explore the wonders of Kenya’s incredible wildlife.

The drive through the park was nothing short of magical. Pupils marvelled at the sight of giraffes gracefully striding through the savannah, herds of gazelles and impalas grazing peacefully and the occasional hippo wallowing in the water. The excitement peaked when we spotted not one but both species of rhinos—white and black. A crocodile lounging by the riverbank and an ostrich towering above the grasslands were also thrilling sights.

Of course, the highlight for many was the lion. While the crowds made it difficult for everyone to catch a glimpse, the experience of being part of the safari atmosphere was unforgettable. Pupils and teachers alike were awestruck by the beauty and diversity of the park’s inhabitants.

Despite the scorching heat, the day was filled with laughter, learning and endless enthusiasm. By the time we left at 2:30 pm, everyone had a deeper appreciation for Kenya’s rich wildlife and the importance of conserving it.

This trip has undoubtedly enriched our classroom learning and sparked curiosity about the natural world. A big thank you to all the staff who helped make this experience possible and to the pupils for their excellent behaviour and keen interest throughout the day.

What a sensational safari indeed!
