Year 3’s Ancient Greece Day!

28th February 2024

The Year 3s Ancient Greek Day 2024 brought again a fun-filled day of interactive learning. Children arrived as various gods/goddesses, mythical creatures and characters from the Ancient Greek past. They started the day experiencing a fabulous Olympic Games inspired PE lesson which included chariot racing, javelin and racing. They learnt facts about the similarities and differences from the original and modern day Olympics. This was particularly poignant with the upcoming Summer Olympics in France.

In addition, children were introduced to the hasapiko, a classic Greek dance as well as had a go at writing using the Ancient Greek alphabet (but, why don’t the letters match?) They also had fun being creative with their use of wax resistant vase creations. The Year 3s then did a surprise walk-about Key Stage 1 and ended up stopping in Year 2 for a 'Talk to an Ancient Greek' session.

As with any good celebration (also invented from the Ancient Greeks), Year 3s tried some classic Greek food such as hummus, tzatziki, pita grapes, cucumber and olives. For many, this was their first experience with Mediterranean inspired food and it was expressed by many that they really enjoyed it. Ultimately, the pita was the all around favourite!
