24th November 2022
On Thursday, 24th November, Year 3 made a trip to Ngong Forest to extend their learning on rainforests in topic lessons, and plants in Science lessons, to the outside world. They especially enjoyed learning the unique fact that Kenya is the only country with a forest in the City Center!
The first activity of the day was a trek on a guided nature trail, where the pupils embarked on identifying the numerous animal, bird, insect and plant species that they came across, linking what they saw and heard to the information they had learned in class. It was fantastic to see many of the pupils use their senses of touch, smell, sight and sound to identify types of footprints, changes in the forest layers, as well as different types of trees. This gave them an appreciation of how animals are able to navigate and survive within their habitats.
To top it all off, Year 3s planted tree seedlings within the forest, happy and satisfied that they had done their part in preserving the tree population for future generations, ultimately making a difference on mother Earth, on top of being totally muddy and tired out!
