Year 4 Bring History to Life at the Railway Museum

17th June 2026

On Wednesday, 17th June 2026, Year 4 pupils embarked on an exciting educational visit to the Railway Museum in Nairobi as part of their Topic studies on the East African Railway. Joining them on the trip were pupils from Kawangware School, creating a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn together while exploring one of Kenya's most important historical landmarks.

Throughout the morning, the pupils immersed themselves in the fascinating history of the railway, which was built in the late 1890s and played a crucial role in shaping East Africa. They climbed aboard historic railway wagons, examined artefacts and photographs from the past, and asked thoughtful questions about life during the railway's construction. A particular highlight was watching a documentary about the infamous Man-Eaters of Tsavo, which helped bring to life one of the most dramatic stories associated with the railway's history.

The excitement continued in the afternoon as the children boarded a train at Nairobi Station for a journey to Syokimau Station. The carriage was filled with laughter, singing and dancing as pupils enjoyed the unique experience of travelling by rail. For many, it was their first time riding on a train, making the journey even more memorable.

The trip was a fantastic way to bring classroom learning to life and deepen the pupils' understanding of the East African Railway. Equally important was the opportunity to share this experience with pupils from Kawangware School, creating new friendships and memories while learning together.
