Year 4 Explore Nature’s Classroom @ Karura Forest

1st December 2023

In term 1, Year 4s built on their knowledge of living things and their habitats, identifying how they are classified using a set of similar characteristics. To put all they had learned into a real life context, they visited Karura Forest in Nairobi city, the only forest nestled right within the hustle and bustle of the city. Walking through a lush 5km trail, they got to see animals in their natural homes, spotting an array of primates, insects, mammals, birds and so much more.

After the animal encounters, our nature explorers took a much needed rest for a picnic lunch where they chatted about what was seen and how it matched what was learned in class. This trip was not only a journey into our classroom lessons, making them come alive in the most incredible way, but also a time to reflect on our science learning journey in a serene environment, to make new connections and unwind from a very busy term.
