Year 4 Explore the Human Digestive System

5th May 2023

This term in Science, pupils in Year 4 are learning about animals, including humans. Within this topic, the Year 4s explored the journey a chocolate cake takes through the human digestive system, by carrying out an experiment in the laboratory that put their knowledge into practical terms. The use of tight stockings helped our budding scientists appreciate how the tight squeeze of the intestines not only enables the extraction and absorption of nutrients from food, but also helps the elimination of waste from the body. A few of our pupils had this to say about this learning experience:

“I really like science experiments, but sometimes they are very messy.” Asali-Y4s

“It is really interesting to see how food turns into poop.” Heidi-Y4S
