Year 4 Explores the History of the Kenya-Uganda Railway

22nd May 2024

Year 4 pupils took a fascinating trip to the Railway Museum on Wednesday, 22nd May, bringing to life their studies on the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The excursion provided a unique opportunity for Year 4s to experience firsthand what they have been learning in their Topic lessons. At the museum, they marvelled at the now-absolute locomotives that once traversed the Kenya-Uganda route, including the very furniture used by Queen Elizabeth II on her maiden train journey. The highlight of the visit was the chance to touch the claws of the infamous man-eaters of Tsavo, and explore the various train cars, adding a tangible and exciting dimension to their historical studies.

In the afternoon, the adventure continued with a memorable train ride from the Nairobi Central Business District to the Nairobi Terminus in Syokimau. This journey allowed our pupils to experience Kenya’s current rail travel, providing a striking contrast to the historical trains they had just explored. The trip not only deepened their understanding of Kenya's railway heritage but also ignited a newfound appreciation for the history and evolution of transportation in the region. Our 4s returned with enriched knowledge and vivid memories of their immersive learning experience.
