Year 4 Explores the National Railway Museum

9th June 2023

Friday, 9th June was the best day ever! Year 4 embarked on a trip to the National Railway Museum, where we learned more about the famous Lunatic Express. The first thing we did when we got there was to watch an interesting documentary about the building of the railway. After this, we went on a tour of the different rooms within the museum, where we saw the seat that the late Queen Elizabeth II sat on when she took a train ride during her visit to Kenya. Next, we saw the claws of the man-eater lions of Tsavo, even getting a chance to touch the now fragile specimens. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT!

We also go to see replica ships that were used to ferry the different materials needed for building the railway, old telephones and many more things used during that time period. The highlight of the day was getting to explore the trains and their huge engines, turning into mini engineers, drivers, and track repairers. We even got on the carriage where the maneaters of Tsavo dragged and killed Superintendent Ryall. To crown this very exciting day, we took a ride on the train from the Central Station to Syokimau Station, singing happily through the entire ride.

Thank you to our teachers and the staff at the Railway Museum for a truly awesome day!
