Year 5 had a hugely successful celebration of Japan Day! It consolidated pupils’ learning on the topic as well as encouraged them to seek and learn new things about the country and the culture.
The Year 5s started off the day learning all about the art of Kanji and Origami, creating their own pieces of Kanji art and origami sculptures. Then we moved on to finding out about Japanese sports and games, discovering that the popular ‘rock, paper, scissors’ (Isii, Kami, Hasami) was originally created in Japan!
Before lunch we joined Year 6 for a hotly contested fashion show, where all of the classes got the chance to strut their stuff and show off their amazing costumes and outfits.
In the afternoon we studied traditional Japanese clothing and designed our own Kimono outfits. This was followed by creating our own Bento boxes out of cardboard and mini origami Pikachus!
We had a fantastic day together and thoroughly enjoyed finishing off our Japan topic in style!
