Year 5’s journey to Mombasa transformed their learning beyond the classroom, bringing history and geography to life. Travelling on the SGR along the route of the famous “Lunatic Line,” exploring the historic ramparts of Fort Jesus, and discovering how Haller Park was transformed from a barren quarry into a thriving wildlife sanctuary gave pupils a deeper appreciation of Kenya’s rich coastal heritage. A memorable sail aboard the Tamarind Dhow also helped them understand the importance of trade along the East African coast, as they learned how merchants once relied on the monsoon winds to connect Africa with distant lands.
Beyond the educational experiences, the trip was filled with fun, adventure, and opportunities to strengthen friendships. Beach activities and the refreshing coastal breeze provided moments of excitement and relaxation, while evenings were spent enjoying movie nights, games, and a lively farewell disco. The visit offered the perfect balance of learning and enjoyment, leaving Year 5 with lasting memories and experiences they will cherish for years to come.
