This term, Year 5s have been focusing on scientific investigations; what they are and how to effectively carry them out. Our pupils have been doing a great job understanding the safety procedures we must put in place when carrying out certain experiments, and have really enjoyed getting dressed up in lab coats, surgical gloves and safety goggles.
They have also been making sure to use the correct subject specific vocabulary when describing the aim, hypothesis, methods, variables, results, observations and conclusions drawn during investigations. In addition, they have demonstrated that they can present the findings of their investigations in a clear and organised manner. These are all skills that will be valuable in not just science lessons, but also in their future academic and professional lives.
Through this focus in science we hope to be igniting an inquisitive flame in our pupils that will last a lifetime. We certainly have some exceptional scientists in Year 5!
