Year 5’s Journey into Farming and Sustainability

23rd March 2026

Year 5 pupils had a truly enriching experience on Monday, 23rd March, during their visit to Mlango Farm in Limuru, a centre for sustainable farming and community learning. Their day began with an engaging talk on farming and trade, where they discovered how crops journey from soil to market and the vital role agriculture plays in supporting communities. A guided walk around the farm gave them the chance to see different crops and sustainable practices in action, while feeding rabbits, chickens, and cows offered a joyful, hands-on lesson about how animals contribute to farm life.

The highlight of the trip was preparing a tree seedling to take home, alongside a nature walk through the indigenous forest surrounding the farm, both symbolic acts of environmental stewardship that underscored the importance of caring for the planet. The visit instilled lessons about sustainability and healthy living, and beautifully connected classroom learning with the wider world. It was a memorable day filled with discovery, responsibility, and fun.
