20th June 2023
This term in Topic lessons, Year 6 has been learning about the vibrant tourism industry in Kenya: the vast natural resources that promote tourism, the impact of tourism on the country’s economy, and the many opportunities that exist in further developing the industry. A few weeks back, they also went on a 4 day trip to Naivasha to explore some of its tourist attractions.
On Tuesday 20th June, all of these learning experiences culminated in a celebration of all they had learned about tourism in Kenya, with a focus on eco-tourism. As part of the day’s activities, the Year 6s explored how Kenya can: develop ‘swimming with the dolphins’ activities at the Kenyan coast by protecting marine life from plastic pollution, provide more wildlife-friendly safaris in the Masai Mara, and better advertise Kenya’s vast tourist resources to the global market.
It was a fun-filled day with pupils dressing up as tourists visiting diverse locations: the beach, the great savannah, mountains, even the urban cities. They also enjoyed creating their own dances to Kenya’s famous tourism song ‘Jambo Bwana’, which was recorded by the group Them Mushrooms in 1982.
From all of Team 6, “Karibu Kenya!”
