Year 6 Design a Sustainable Future!

10th June 2026

Following their Topic unit on tourism in Kenya, our Year 6 pupils embarked on an exciting project that combined creativity, collaboration, and environmental awareness. Through their studies, they explored Kenya’s vibrant tourism sector and examined some of the country’s most treasured natural resources, including the spectacular wildlife of the Maasai Mara, the beautiful beaches along the Indian Ocean coast, and the breathtaking landscapes found across the country. They learned how these attractions draw visitors from around the world and discovered the importance of protecting these valuable environments while recognising the significant role tourism plays in supporting livelihoods and contributing to the national economy.

To bring their learning to life, pupils were challenged to design and build models of eco lodges that could operate within the tourism sector while safeguarding the environment. Working together in teams, they carefully considered sustainable features such as renewable energy sources, water conservation systems, and environmentally friendly building materials. The project encouraged pupils to think creatively, solve problems collaboratively, and envision future opportunities where economic growth and environmental conservation can go hand in hand. The resulting models showcased not only impressive design skills but also a thoughtful understanding of sustainable tourism and responsible development.
