Year 6 Spot Animal Adaptations @ Stedmak Gardens

4th April 2023

In science lessons, Year 6 had been learning about animal and plant adaptations that enable survival, and how these adaptations lead to the evolution of species over time. To enable our pupils to make connections between what they learned in class and what exists in nature, Year 6 visited Stedmak Gardens, where they were able to get a glimpse of many species of birds, snakes, primates, turtles, lamas, porcupines, crocodiles, lions and so much more.

It was great to see Year 6s comparing the physical features of the animals as they are known generally, to the physical features of the animals that exist currently within Stedmak Gardens. When observing the German Owl, Nevaan noted that:

“It has far much less feathers than the species in the picture. I guess because Kenya is hotter than Germany, the owl had to shed some of its feathers so that it does not overheat.”

After touring the entire animal park, our pupils enjoyed a well deserved afternoon at the amusement park. Thank you to the teachers and staff at the Gardens who made sure that it was a memorable experience for all.
