Year 6 Tour Naivasha!

26th May 2023

This term in geography lessons, Year 6 has explored the topic of ‘Tourism in Kenya’, with a focus on Kenya’s rich natural resources that are visited by both local and international tourists. To put into perspective what they have been learning in class, the Year 6s took a four day trip to Naivasha where they, in true tourist fashion, toured, explored and immersed themselves in activities around the town.

First up was a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to Crescent Island, where giraffes, buffalo, hippos and different tree species were spotted. On day 2, an excursion to Hell’s Gate National Park saw our pupils tour the Olkaria Geothermal Plant to better understand how power is generated from hot springs, take a warm swim in the geothermal spa, climb rocks on the famous ‘Lion King’ movie rock cliff, and mountain bike through the park trails. Day 3 took the happy tourists on a historical trip back to pre and post colonial Kenya, to the arrival of Joy and George Adamson to Kenya and their creation of The Elsa Conservation Trust that has successfully educated masses and conserved a wide array of Kenyan wildlife. Finally, on day 4, Year 6s visited Oserian Flower Farm where they learned about the extensive process of growing, harvesting, packing and preserving flowers for export.

All in all it was an action packed trip that thoroughly engaged and tired our young tourists in a positive way.
