Year 7 and 8 Learn About Crop Genetics

Braeburn was delighted to host Dr Dorcus Gemenet, a crop breeding stimulation specialist, who spoke to our Year 7 and 8s about her work. She introduced our pupils to genetics and how they are used to grow better yielding, pest and weather resistant crops in Africa.
This is one of many future Science talks the Science Department hopes to facilitate for our budding scientists, in an aim to expose them to the wide array of professions they can venture into within the field of Science. In addition, we hope that such experiences will open our pupils’ minds to the possibility of using science to solve current problems facing humanity.
